Making concrete pretty...

We did this one a while back, just as the sun was creeping back into our lives after a long, cold winter. Now that we are all sweating and sucking in summer, I thought an outdoorsy activity might be just the thing!

In a couple of less than precious containers, mix up some paint. I used a couple of tablespoons of cornflour with enough water to make a thinnish paste. To this, add a few drops of food coloring and stir.

Get some sturdy, kids quality paint brushes and find an ugly patch of concrete and get busy. Initially the paint will look like little more than wet slop, but once it dries it magically becomes colorful and rather lovely.

Once you've finished leave the paintings to wash away with the weather, or if need be, get down on your hands and knees and scrub them off. The former is my technique, as I rather like the effect of kids art everywhere!
